Step 4: Development (Build-out)

After the site architecture and design templates have been approved, development of the site will begin. During this process, all web pages, databases, and forms will be created. The site will be tested for functionality and browser compatibility and posted posted to a temporary location for client review.

  • Complete a Web Plan document for site development for the web lab. Before you do this, you will have to find out who the users will be, what the levels of access should be, and what URLs are required. You will also want to know where the current website is hosted. Be sure to include yourself, members of the web lab, your designer, and any other creative services staff who might work on the site.
  • Web lab will build a site shell based on your Web Plan document.
  • The designer will place landing page images to start.
  • You or a member of the web lab will train the client in how to use the Drupal Content Management system. Once they are trained, they will build pages with content from the approved manuscript.
  • You may need to complete photo shoots or make stock purchases to fill in images as the site becomes fleshed out.
  • Once all content is entered, review with Jeanne and Joanne to get their feedback.
  • Then client reviews and makes changes or requests for changes.
  • Proofreader reviews final site. Return to web area if further revisions needed, review and revise until final site is completed.
  • Present final site to client.
  • Approval of final site by client.
  • Site will go into "content freeze" before launching. During this time absolutely NO changes can be made to the site. Typically you need a minimum of 5 days of freeze so the lab can prepare the site to launch.
