Comping Web Pages
Tips for Comping Web Pages
1. Get Started
- Talk to project manager to discuss what’s needed. Ask if job is billable or not.
2. Layout
- Determine which layout will be used.
- Go to the Drupal Basics website to take a screengrab of the homepage.
- Choose which theme (top banner) will work best with the layout.
- Go to Master Banner Templates>Banner_with1Nav_template.psd, choose and revise the theme you need, flatten the file, and copy and paste into your screengrab document.
3. Images
- Find any images that are appropriate.
- Size images to dimensions needed.
- Approved images will be added at a later time.
4. Mask Text
- Some text may need to be revised, so mask out what’s there and match the font size.
- Verdana, Arial, or Times are usually the fonts used.
- Try to label each PSD layer for clarity.
5. Save File
- Once all elements are in place, save the file as a PSD and then save for web.
- File>Save for Web & Devices: A window will open (see below). Choose the settings to the right (as shown in the figure below).
6. Get Comp to Project Manager
- Either email or print the comp for the project manager.
- The project manager may have you upload to the temp site to share with others.
- If you are asked to post a comp, upload the file to your temp folder on the web server and post the URL in ProjTrak.
