Website/Webpage Creation Guidelines for All Sites
Spell Checking
Dreamweaver has a built in spell checking function, and should be used after a page is complete. Although it may seem redundant to spell check even if you have copy and pasted something from an approved document, there are often errors that fall through the cracks and must be corrected before upload. This will reduce the number of proofreading rounds necessary for the project, and in turn, shorten the length of the project itself.
Dashes
Care should be taken to use the appropriate dash (e.g. hyphen, en-dash, em-dash) when creating pages. Hyphens (-)(-) are used in compound words and to separate numbers that are not inclusive such as telephone numbers. En-dashes (–)(– or –) are used to signify up to and including (or through) as in 2003–2004. En-dashes are also used to link a city name to the name of a university that has more than one campus as in Rutgers–Newark. Em-dashes (—)(— or —) are used to set off an explanatory element as in “Welcome — or welcome back — to Rutgers.” Hyphens and en-dashes should not have spaces on either side while em-dashes should have spaces on either side.
